Step Into Our Tree Museum
Our trees give our park life. When you step beneath our canopy from the busy city streets, you’ll instantly feel a refreshing change in atmosphere. With over 300 trees and a rich diversity of species, Madison Square Park is proud to be officially recognized as an accredited Level 2 arboretum by the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program.
To help keep our trees healthy and preserve our arboretum for future generations to enjoy, we have commissioned a 60-year Tree Conservation Plan to protect and strengthen our canopy. The major goals of the plan are to diversify tree species, maintain a mixed forest of mature and immature trees, choose species that provide habitat for wildlife and seasonal interest for visitors, restore species that were prominent in the park’s original design, and create world-class collections of redbuds and witch hazels.
