Arboretum
Step Into Our Tree Museum
Our trees give our park life. When you step beneath our canopy from the busy city streets you’ll instantly feel a refreshing change of atmosphere. With over 300 trees and a rich diversity in species, Madison Square Park is proud to be officially recognized as an accredited Level 2 arboretum by the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program.
To help keep our trees healthy and preserve our arboretum for future generations to enjoy, we have commissioned a 60-year Tree Conservation Plan to protect and strengthen our canopy. The major goals of the plan are to diversify tree species, maintain a mixed forest of mature and immature trees, choose species that provide a habitat for wildlife and seasonal interest for visitors, restore species that were prominent in the park’s original design, and create a world-class collections of redbuds and witch hazels.
