Are the lawns open today?
A live status of the current lawns open is available within the widget located in the top-left corner of our website on desktop and on the top-right on mobile.
Can I bring my dog on the lawns?
We love dogs, but to protect wildlife and keep our grounds sanitary for our visitors, dogs must always be leashed and remain on pathways. With appropriate documentation, service and support dogs are allowed greater access to areas of the park otherwise off-limit to pets.
Can I feed the squirrels or birds in the park?
Feeding wildlife creates dangerous conditions for humans and animals alike. Providing food to birds and squirrels causes them to associate humans with food. It also creates unstable populations, unhealthy diets, and attracts vermin and disease. It’s best to let the park’s wildlife find their own meals.
Are there bathrooms in the park?
There are no bathrooms in the park, but you can find a DOT-owned restroom on Madison Avenue between 23rd Street and 24th Street.
Can I ride my bike in the park?
To maintain a safe environment for our community, the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation has prohibited the use of bicycles on park pathways.

Can I hold a birthday party, fundraiser, or an event in the park?
We’re happy to host small gatherings, but events of 20 or more people require a permit from the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation. Any lawn furniture or decorations you plan to use must be included on the permit.
Are there water fountains in the park?
Water fountains can be found near the Fountain and the Reflecting Pool. There is also a kid-friendly water fountain located in the playground.
Can I bring a table or chair to the lawn?
You can bring a chair for your own use, but if you’d like to bring a table, you must first obtain a permit from the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation.
Where is Madison Square Garden?
Madison Square Garden is located between 7th and 8th Avenues between 31st Street and 33rd Street. The arena was originally located on the northeast corner of the park but moved locations in 1925.
Can I dedicate a bench?

What are the park rules?
Madison Square Park follows the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation’s rules. The most up-to-date park rules can be found here.
What do I do if I’ve lost an item in the park?
If you have misplaced an item, we recommend that you contact Shake Shack at 212.889.6600 or the 13th Precinct by calling 212.477.7411.
Covid-19 Guidelines
The safety and well-being of our community and our staff are our top priority. All events and activities in Madison Square Park will strictly adhere to the City’s guidance on COVID-19 safety procedures and protocols.
Fully vaccinated individuals do not need to wear masks or be socially distanced, however, unvaccinated children and adults should wear a face cover and practice social distancing while in the park.

ACCESSIBILITY
Madison Square Park, as a public, open green space, is free and fully accessible to patrons of all abilities; including by not limited to individuals with physical, visual, and auditory disabilities, owners of special care animals, and wheelchair users.
Our playground is Level 3 accessible, and equipped with universally accessible swings. There are no steps or stairs within Madison Square Park, or between the sidewalk and the park. Ramp access for wheelchairs and strollers as well as access for individuals with impaired mobility is available for all the park’s pathways and lawns, in compliance with ADA regulations.
