Become a Citizen Scientist
The park’s delicate ecosystem is rapidly changing. With the help of our community, we can monitor how these changes impact the species living in our park.
In recent years, the park has faced environmental challenges caused by human activity and climate change including soil degradation, flooding, changes in seasonal cycles, and an increase in disease and pests.
Our staff is constantly documenting the health of the park’s plants, animals, and insects to protect them from these factors, but we can’t do it alone. We’re calling on Citizen Scientists to use the free iNaturalist app to help us learn more about the creatures living in our park.
A Citizen Scientist is any member of the public who helps collect and analyze scientific data. The collected data has become an increasingly effective tool for ecologists and nature lovers alike to help make informed decisions about trends and patterns happening around the world. It is cost effective, time efficient, and best of all, anyone can participate!
Become a Citizen Scientist at Madison Square Park by joining a BioBlitz, taking part in one of our Scavenger Hunts, or using iNaturalist anytime you’re visiting the park.
Together, we can learn more about the nature that surrounds us and keep the park healthy and green.
