Lawns Open    Lawns Closed
Madison Square Park Conservancy is responsible for the maintenance of the park’s lawns, which includes closing the lawns each year from October through May for reseeding. With the heightened need for public space, the Conservancy has kept the lawns open throughout the pandemic. For the month of April, all lawns will be closed to reestablish the grass in time for summer.

iNaturalist

Native plants and animals have lived in Madison Square Park for decades, becoming a vital part of our ecosystem. Join us in exploring the park’s plants and wildlife by participating in our seasonal Scavenger Hunts. From birds to bees, flowers to fungi, every observation made will help us identify what’s living in and around your park. Record your findings by taking a photo and sharing it on iNaturalist—your observations will help keep Madison Square Park green.

iNaturalist is an app that helps scientists from around the world learn more about the natural environment around us. At the park, our team uses the data collected to make important decisions about the habitats and food sources that sustain the park’s ecosystem. Learn more about the species that call the park home by visiting our iNaturalist page here.

With your help, we can keep the park healthy and green for generations to come.
