State of the Trees: 2025 Arbor Month Report
State of the Trees: 2025 Arbor Month Report

Each year, our team completes a thorough tree inspection and assessment to determine the health of our trees. This allows us to identify which trees need extra care and which require pruning––a process needed to help us plan for the future.
While park visitors wrote Letters to the Trees this past Arbor Month, our Horticulture Team completed their most recent Tree Report of Madison Square Park. This vivid snapshot, based on our most recent tree-by-tree assessment, provides a recap of the park’s tree-scape across the past year, highlighting one of our favorite blooming cherries, and celebrating one of our historic elm’s inclusion in the city’s prestigious Great Tree Search of 2024, an honor we achieved through the advocacy of community members like you.
While the good news is that our tree canopy remains healthy, and no trees needed to be removed over the past year, the threats of climate change continue to be felt more profoundly than in previous decades.
