Madison Square Park Conservancy is responsible for the maintenance of the park’s lawns which are in the process of spring reseeding. While the grass is establishing now, visitors should expect the majority of lawns to be ready for use in late May.  Lawns are open daily for public use starting at 10 AM through 5 PM, weather permitting. Lawns are closed on Parade Days.  Learn more about park hours and rules by visiting our FAQ page.

Introduce us to Maizey.

Maizey is an 8-year-old English cream golden retriever.  She moved to her forever home in Gramercy Park when she was 12 weeks old.  She is extremely smart and incredibly sweet, but we’re pretty sure she thinks she’s human.  If you meet Maizey, please don’t tell her she’s a dog!

How long has Maizey been visiting Madison Square Park?

Maizey first started visiting the park when she was just a puppy.  In fact, Maizey did a lot of her training at the south end of Madison Square Park.  You would have found her on a very long lead practicing her training such as coming when her name was called or learning new commands.

What are some of Maizey’s favorite things to do when he visits the park?

Maizey loves to head straight for Jemmy’s Dog Run to check out what her local friends are doing.  After a quick run up and down ‘doggie hill’, she then says hello to all of the humans.  Once she leaves the dog run, she heads over to Shake Shack for the delicious smells and people-watching.  However, Maizey’s absolute favorite thing to do in the park is to enjoy a Poochini from Shack Shake on her birthday.

Does Maizey have any friends in the park?

Maizey is the friendliest dog and loves to greet everyone, especially humans.  She always has a big smile on her face and her tail is always wagging.  Everyone in the park is very friendly, and they’re always willing to stop and pet her to say hello.

If Maizey could tell the visitors of Madison Square Park one thing, what would it be?

Don’t miss all the beautiful flowers and trees blooming throughout the year, especially the tulips in early spring.  Most importantly, if you look closely you can always find a new squirrel friend hiding out.
