Madison Square Park Conservancy is responsible for the maintenance of the park’s lawns which are in the process of spring reseeding. While the grass is establishing now, visitors should expect the majority of lawns to be ready for use in late May.  Lawns are open daily for public use starting at 10 AM through 5 PM, weather permitting. Lawns are closed on Parade Days.  Learn more about park hours and rules by visiting our FAQ page.

Park Pavement Reconstruction

MSPC Christina Iglesis Rashmi Gill 57

In June 2022, the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation began a year-long reconstruction of Madison Square Park’s pavers at the southern end of the park.

This work will be occurring in four phases, through June 2023. The first phase was completed in October 2022 on the eastern side of the park, and the second phase began in November 2022, in the area on the northwest side of the Southern Fountain.

We understand that reducing access to some areas of the park while NYC Parks oversees this project may be frustrating to parkgoers, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. These repairs were deemed necessary for safety reasons, and were required to begin before the end of the City’s 2022 fiscal year, so the scope and timing of this construction could not be avoided.

We are grateful for your understanding and flexibility during this time. You can learn more about this project on the NYC Parks website.
