With Fixed Crane, Nicole Eisenman’s newly commissioned project for Madison Square Park, the artist destabilizes familiar heroic objects associated with human achievement. The work consists of a toppled, decommissioned industrial crane embellished with sculptural objects. Eisenman’s crane is a mighty symbol of urban growth that now rests impotently on the park’s Oval Lawn.
