At our sixth annual horticulture symposium, join us for an exciting day of soil exploration. The program for 2024 will explore life’s forgotten cornerstone through a series of speakers and activities. This event is free and open to the public.

Programing for the event includes:

  • Intro to Modern Urban Soil Management by Bill Logan, Founder of Urban Arborists, Author of Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth
  • Applying Indigenous Soil Science by Ñawi Flores, Founder of Kinrary Hub
  • Demystifying Urban Soil Contamination and Remediation: What do we know and what can we do? by Zhongqi Cheng, Graduate Deputy and Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Brooklyn College.
  • Let’s Dig Deeper: A panel moderated by Austin Shupp, Horticulture Associate, Madison Square Park Conservancy
  • What is Soil Painting by Kirsten Kurtz, Manager for the Cornell Soil Health Lab and Artist
  • Soils: Our Common Resource, Our Common Denominator by George Lozefski, Environmental Scientist and the Laboratory Manager Education/Outreach Coordinator at the NYC Soil Water Conservation District and Urban Soils Institute
