Madison Square Park Conservancy is responsible for the maintenance of the park’s lawns which are in the process of spring reseeding. While the grass is establishing now, visitors should expect the majority of lawns to be ready for use in late May.  Lawns are open daily for public use starting at 10 AM through 5 PM, weather permitting. (Due to unpredictable weather this evening, the Fireflies at Dusk Watch Party will be postponed until Thursday, July 6th.)

As the sun sets on summer nights in Madison Square Park, fireflies emerge, magically lighting up our lawns and gardens. 

Join us for a relaxing night in the park as we search for twinkling fireflies and learn what makes these summertime insects so special. Guests are invited to take part in family-friendly ecology trivia and take a closer look at the tools of an urban naturalist.

The program will kick off on Sol Lewitt Lawn before dusk at 7:30 PM. 

Picnic blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged. Feel free to bring your own snacks to enjoy.
