Christmas Bird Count 2025
The 126th annual Christmas Bird Count—the nation’s longest-running community-science bird project—will soon be underway! This location is an accessibly friendly count, and will move slowly throughout the space.
The group will meet at the North Reflecting Pool, and online registration is required using the link below.
What is the Christmas Bird Count? Since Christmas Day 1900, beginning right here in New York City, participants across the U.S. venture out into their communities to count all the winter birds they can find. The data is then used to understand long-term bird population trends.
Who can participate? This family-friendly event is open to all and free to attend. We welcome everyone, from beginner birders and nature enthusiasts to expert ornithologists.
Event Details: NYC Bird Alliance is organizing over 25 counts across Manhattan, Governors Island, Randall’s Island, and Roosevelt Island. All NYC Bird Alliance counts will take place on Sunday, December 14.
Registration: The 126th Christmas Bird Count webpage and registration forms can be found here.
