“Brier Patch” Reflection Board
Since its debut, Hugh Hayden’s Brier Patch has prompted viewers to reflect on complex ideas surrounding education. Comprised of 100 elementary school-style desks—75 of which erupt with tree branches that cohere into tangled and layered assembles—the exhibition confronts viewers with ideas surrounding the inherent tensions within our education system, including its role as both a place of potential protection and peril.
Of the many questions the exhibition elicits, one stands out: What does education mean to you?
Join us every day from 12 PM–2PM and share your thoughts on this very question using our Reflection Board. Stop by and let us know what education means to you—or share your reflections on social media and tag us @madsqparknyc.
