Madison Square Park Conservancy is responsible for the maintenance of the park’s lawns which are in the process of spring reseeding. While the grass is establishing now, visitors should expect the majority of lawns to be ready for use in late May.  Lawns are open daily for public use starting at 10 AM through 5 PM, weather permitting. Lawns are closed on Parade Days.  Learn more about park hours and rules by visiting our FAQ page.

Beau Bree Rhee: Shadow of the Sea

Join us for Shadow of the Sea, a new performance project by Beau Bree Rhee conceived in dialogue with Cristina Iglesias’s Landscape and Memory exhibition, and presented in partnership with The Kitchen and Madison Square Park Conservancy.

Composed as a “dance poem,” the performance will feature an ensemble of dancers performing eight distinctive “stanzas,” seven of which will be performed on the Oval Lawn in Madison Square Park, where Iglesias’s installation of five bronze sculptural pools traces a historic creek.

Prior to the performance in the park, Shadow of the Sea will feature an opening segment that involves viewers following the performers on a walk through the city. To experience this segment, viewers may choose to meet the performers at 5 PM on the east side (East River Promenade and East 10th) or west side (Pier 64) of Manhattan. Staff from The Kitchen will be present at both locations to direct visitors. These walks will last approximately 30 minutes. Click here for more information on this portion of the performance.

An additional performance of Shadow of the Sea will take place on October 20, 2022.
