Madison Square Park Conservancy (MSPC) is the nonprofit entrusted by the City of New York to operate Madison Square Park, a 6.2-acre public space in the heart of Manhattan. Our mission is to conserve, maintain, and program this ever-evolving historic green space, including raising 100% of the park’s operating budget. Our dedicated team takes great pride in caring for and shaping an urban oasis for all to enjoy.
Anchoring a diverse and vibrant live-work community, Madison Square Park is both an intimate neighborhood park and an international destination for 60,000 daily visitors. A public space since 1686, the park has long been a gathering place for people from all walks of life. Today, it is also a public garden, urban forest, wildlife habitat, public art exhibition space, a haven for children and pets to play, and one of New York City’s most transcendent and welcoming places.
Reporting to the Associate Park Managers, the Park Crew Members are responsible for day-to-day set up and clean-up in the park. Park Crew Members will be expected to participate in other Conservancy activities as needed and to work in cooperation with all team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Park Operations:
- Maintain highest standards of park and personal safety
- Ensure that the park, dog run, and Worth Square are presented, maintained, operated at the highest standards of cleanliness and good repair
- Complete infrastructure maintenance and repairs, including but not limited to: painting, power washing, concrete and masonry repair, equipment repair and maintenance, water feature maintenance.
- Operate, troubleshoot, provide preventative maintenance of machinery and equipment
- Adhere to safe storage solutions
- Answer patron questions in a polite and courteous manner
- Be available during inclement weather and other emergencies
- Program Operations:
- Set up and break down park programming, events, and volunteer activities
- Participate in special projects
- Administration:
- Monitor for, address, and report park safety hazards, vandalism, etc.
- Maintain daily park records including documentation, inventories, inspection forms, etc.
- Respond to emails, inquiries, and requests in a timely and appropriate fashion
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Ability to perform physically strenuous work in various weather conditions alone and in a team environment
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, walk, stand, and push for long periods of time.
- Comfort interacting with public and being in a public-facing role
- Responsible individuals committed to doing every job well.
- Ability to work alone and in a team setting.
- Field problem solvers
- Verbal and written communications in English.
- Ability to utilize technology such as Slack, Google Suite, and Zoom.
Time Commitment:
- 40 Hours a week Overtime hours may be available. Looking for immediate hire. This is a seasonal position November 2024- June 2025.
- Open shift schedules include:
- Friday – Tuesday 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Friday -Tuesday 1:00 PM – 9:30 PM
Compensation:
$19.23 Hourly.
