Madison Square Park, a seven-acre urban oasis, is located in the heart of Manhattan’s Flatiron District at East 23rd Street between Madison and Fifth Avenues. Madison Square Park Conservancy raises 100% of the funds that support a program of commissioned contemporary public art, lush horticulture, Park maintenance, Park security, and other free cultural programs.
The Conservancy seeks a full-time Human Resources and Office Manager who will report directly to the Director of Finance and Human Resources but work closely with the Executive Director and other department heads. The human resources administration portion of the position relates to employee relations, onboarding, policy implementation, and benefits administration. This person will also manage the organization’s work to further goals related to diversity, inclusion, and equity. The office management portion of the position relates to overall office support, technology management, and building services requests.
Key Responsibilities
Human Resources Administration
- Responsible for DEI initiatives for Staff, Associate Board, and Board
- Researches, develop, recommends, and executes creative strategies to foster the organization’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
- Reviews current practices, policies, hiring strategies to support the organization’s DEI initiatives.
- Develops and/or acquires third-party training to support DEI initiatives.
- Maintains knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
- Administer HR policies and procedures and periodic updates to the employee handbook ensuring legal compliance
- Assists with benefits administration (Health, Dental, Vision, 401K)
- Develop and conduct onboarding material review and employee benefits training
- Maintains organizational charts, employee directory, emergency contact information
- Assist with maintaining employee files, recruitment records, personnel files, and memos
- Assist in coordinating mid-year and annual employee performance reviews
- Maintain a professional development plan resource spreadsheet for senior management
- Participates in reviewing job descriptions, recruiting, hiring
- Responds timely to inquiries and requests from managers and employees regarding human resource policies, procedures, and employee benefit plans.
- Update human resource and timekeeping database (JustWorks) with new hires and current employee information
- Work with the Director of Finance and Human Resources to resolve employee relations issues.
- Nurture a positive working environment and define employee relations practices necessary to promote a high level of employee morale, engagement, and motivation
- Maintains compliance with Federal, State, and local labor laws
General Office Management
- Manage day-to-day office operations
- Coordinate general office maintenance
- Assists with employee relations efforts, such as coordination of team lunches, birthday card program, team outings/meetings, etc.
- Support and coordinate departmental office functions, including filing, routine correspondence, and mailings.
- Supervise the acquisition and maintenance of office equipment and office supplies
- Manage relationship with facilities management and assist with employee building badges and property removal pass
- Manage Executive Director portfolio, calendar, and correspondence
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or in place of a degree, considerations are made with relevant field experience, certificate programs, experience with knowledge of Human Resources and DEI.
- Working knowledge of administrative and HR procedures and office management
- Excellent written and oral skills.
- Demonstrable discretion and adherence to confidentiality.
- High Interpersonal skills and diplomatic skils
- Resourceful, proactive, detail-oriented, and organized.
- Ability to work effectively on multiple projects and to meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with Microsoft suite, Google Suite, Adobe Suite, Zoom.
