Madison Square Park Conservancy is responsible for the maintenance of the park’s lawns which are in the process of spring reseeding. While the grass is establishing now, visitors should expect the majority of lawns to be ready for use in late May.  Lawns are open daily for public use starting at 10 AM through 5 PM, weather permitting. Development and Events Associate

Development & Events Associate

Madison Square Park, a seven-acre urban oasis, is located in the heart of Manhattan’s Flatiron District at East 23rd Street between Madison and Fifth Avenues. Madison Square Park Conservancy raises 100% of the funds that support a program of commissioned contemporary public art, lush horticulture, Park maintenance, Park security, and other free cultural programs.

The Conservancy seeks a full-time Development & Events Associate to support the events and fundraising teams. The Associate will report to both the Development Manager and Events Manager and work in close partnership with the entire Development team as well as the Executive Director, gaining valuable experience in fundraising and event operations. The Associate will be responsible for assisting with processes and systems for the Development department, various administrative tasks supporting the department, and the planning of 2-3 major fundraising events per year in addition to smaller ad-hoc events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Key areas of focus with Development:

  • Assist the Development Manager with various departmental needs, including but not limited to:
    • Mad. Friends membership program
    • grant writing and management
    • donor database management
    • gift processing
    • overall strategy developing and meeting revenue goals.
  • Support Executive Director on Board relations and meetings, including correspondence, scheduling, minutes, and follow-up.
  • Support the Director of Marketing and Communications on Associate Board prospect management, meetings and events, and strategic goals.
  • Track and manage Board and Associate Board engagement and contributions.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Department as needed.
  • Additional administrative, event, and project management responsibilities as required.

Key areas of focus with Events:

  • Supporting the Events Manager with the Conservancy’s 2-3 major fundraising events and additional cultivation and smaller ad-hoc events throughout the year, including, but not limited to:
    • operation plans for park staff
    • planning timelines
    • run of shows
    • gift and RSVP tracking
    • auction management
    • check-in, set-up and break-down of events
  •  Research potential in-kind donors and event sponsors.
  • Collaborate with the Sustainability Department to work toward a goal of “zero waste” events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts degree or in place of a degree, considerations are made with relevant field experience, certificate programs, experience with knowledge of Development and Events management.
  • 1-3 years of development or event management experience.
  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • Superior organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact with trustees, all levels of staff, and the public in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple projects and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and a willingness to be hands-on with the performance of a variety of assigned tasks.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and new opportunities.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft suite, Google Suite, Adobe Suite, Zoom.

Compensation and Schedule

  • Salary range is based on experience.
