Background

Madison Square Park Conservancy (MSPC) raises 100% of the funds needed to operate Madison Square Park, a 6.2-acre public greenspace in the heart of Manhattan. In addition to maintaining the park, MSPC supports nationally recognized horticulture, commissions contemporary public art, and plans and implements sustainability initiatives and free programming.

Position

MSPC seeks a full-time Communications and Marketing Senior Manager to work with the Executive Director, all departments and external consultants on press strategy, social media, outreach, and brand messaging. The ideal candidate is: a dynamic, enthusiastic individual who enjoys working on a small team in a collaborative environment; comfortable both taking initiative and direction; and excited to learn current trends and best practices in communications that will expand awareness about the park and enhance its fundraising base.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Communications and Marketing Senior Manager will:

  • Develop a holistic communications strategy across all departments and audiences in collaboration with the Executive Director, department directors, and external consultants
  • Oversee and implement digital communications (website, e-newsletter, and social media)
    • Plan, write, and edit content across social media, website, and e-newsletter in collaboration with corresponding departments
    • Write and execute weekly e-newsletter, plus dedicated email blasts as needed
    • Coordinate and manage social media channels and campaigns
  • Monitor social media activity and engagement
  • Build and foster community across all communications channels
  • Report on analytics
  • Manage graphic design needs across all departments
    • Consult with staff and external design team on materials such as signage and banners, event invites, and other event graphics, staff uniforms, external presentations, etc. and manage production
  • Coordinate public relations and press strategy
    • Collaborate with Executive Director, department directors, and external comms firms on public relations strategy, press releases, and outreach
    • Support external PR firms with scheduling, press requests, and other needs
    • Draft press releases, press kits, and other communications materials as needed
  • Support MSPC events and programs

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or in lieu of a degree, consideration will be given to relevant work experience and certificate programs and classes in communications, marketing, and related fields

  • A minimum of three years’ experience working in a communications and/or marketing capacity
  • Fluency with social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter), Mailchimp, WordPress and current trends
  • Superior writing, editing, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Hootsuite, WordPress, MailChimp, SurveyMonkey and Canva
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and thoroughness

Compensation and Schedule

  • Annual Salary Range: $60,000 – $70,000, plus benefits
  • Benefits: Employee Health plan, Dental & Vision Plan, Vacation/Sick/Personal Days, Floating Holidays, 401K Plan
  • Schedule: Flexible 4- or 5-day schedule; 3 days in office required
