MAD. SQ. HOLIDAY RETURNS FOR ITS EIGHTH YEAR

The Madison Square Park Conservancy Presents Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 7

WHAT: Madison Square Park Conservancy’s annual holiday tree lighting in historic Madison Square Park. This ceremony is free to the public and celebrates the holiday season with the lighting of a 25-foot spruce tree.  The celebration will include a holiday light countdown, performances by The New York Life Singers and kid’s rocker AudraRox, and the lighting of decorations throughout the park.  Mad. Sq. Holiday is supported by Walgreens, The Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership and Benvenuto Cafe.

WHERE: Mad. Sq. Holiday will take place in the Northern Plaza of Madison Square Park. Enter the park on 25th

Street and Fifth Avenue.

WHEN: Madison Square Park Conservancy’s Mad. Sq. Holiday will take place rain or shine on Tuesday, December 7 at 4:30pm.

ABOUT THE MAD. SQ. HOLIDAY TREE: Madison Square Park was home to New York’s first public holiday tree, sparking the “Tree of Light” movement throughout the nation. By 1915, more than one-thousand communities displayed public trees. Madison Square Park’s “Star of Hope” memorial located at the southern end of the park commemorates the park’s role in the holiday tree movement.
