Hawk Sighting

We had an unexpected visitor at Madison Square Park today. This red tailed hawk was spotted lounging around the park.

Although red tails are the most common hawk in the United States, they are significantly less common in urban areas.  It is unfortunate that we do not have more hawks in the city as they help keep down rodent populations. One hawk in particular is famous for starring in two documentaries and while I don’t know if this hawk is the famous Pale Male, it’s nice to see some variety in a city full of pigeons.
